Finance Committee Favorably Reports Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Act and Telephone Tax Repeal
WASHINGTON -- The Senate Finance Committee today favorably reported out by voice vote S. 662, The Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Act and the Chairman's substitute to H.R. 3916, legislation to immediately repeal the telephone tax.
Background
The Breast and Cervical Treatment Act would create an optional new Medicaid eligibility category for low income women who receive a diagnosis of breast or cervical cancer through a federal screening program.
The Chairman's Mark of H.R. 3916, repeal of the Federal communications excise tax, would immediately repeal the three percent telephone excise tax, originally imposed in 1898 as a luxury tax on phone service.
