Wyden Statement on Treasury Department Refusal to Comply with Oversight on 6103 Compliance
Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement on the Treasury Department’s failure to comply with oversight of compliance with requests for taxpayer information under section 6103 of the tax code:
“In a letter to Secretary Mnuchin, I requested answers to a range of questions about the Treasury Department’s compliance with congressional requests for taxpayer information under section 6103 of the tax code. The reply I received was unresponsive and wholly unacceptable.
“Congress has a constitutional obligation to conduct oversight of the executive branch. If the Treasury Department refuses to answer our questions, I am prepared to again place a hold on department nominees as I did previously when routine requests for information went unanswered. Congress needs to take action to force the administration to comply with oversight.”
Wyden’s letter to Treasury Secretary Mnuchin is available here, and the department’s response is available here.
