Wyden Statement on New York AG's Lawsuit Regarding Donor-Reporting Requirements

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement in response to New York Attorney General Letitia James’ lawsuit against the Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service regarding donor-reporting requirements:

“Secretary Mnuchin’s decision to repeal donor-reporting requirements opened the floodgates to dark and foreign money flowing through organizations like the NRA and those tied to the Koch Network to influence U.S. elections. From day one, the department has refused to disclose who officials met with while discussing this change. The department has also never justified blocking law enforcement agencies from learning the identities of dark-money donors.

“To conduct oversight of this terrible policy, I requested much of the same information being sought by New York Attorney General Letitia James and the department has still not responded. This information is critical to protecting the integrity of our elections and it should be produced to Congress.”
