Wyden Statement on Meeting with Deputy Treasury Secretary-Designate Wally Adeyemo

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement on his meeting with Deputy Treasury Secretary-Designate Wally Adeyemo:

“I had a wonderful conversation today with Deputy Secretary-Designate Wally Adeyemo. He’s eminently qualified, and has the experience needed to succeed on day one. 

“We discussed the urgent need for economic relief and how the Treasury Department will support an economic recovery under his leadership with Secretary-Designate Yellen. We talked about addressing the climate crisis and how the Treasury Department will be central to that effort, as well as racial disparities in the tax code and lending programs.

“Lastly, we covered the intersection of finance and intelligence, which is particularly important to me as the top Democrat on the Finance Committee and member of the Intelligence Committee. As this week’s reports of Russian hacking of the Treasury Department show, our financial and banking systems are inextricably linked to intelligence.

“All in all, I was deeply impressed with Deputy Secretary-Designate Adeyemo, and reiterated my commitment to getting his nomination through the committee as quickly as possible.”
