Wyden Statement on HHS OIG Report Finding That ORR Incident Reporting System is Ineffective, Jeopardizing the Safety and Well-Being of Migrant Children

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement in response to a troubling new report by the Office of Inspector General at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) finding that the Office of Refugee Resettlement's (ORR) incident reporting system for sexual abuse is ineffective:

“ORR has a moral and statutory obligation to protect the safety and well-being of the thousands of vulnerable children in its care. Tragically, the agency's deeply flawed incident reporting system obstructs ORR's ability to protect children in its care from sexual abuse. Plans for an improved reporting system by the end of 2021 is unacceptable. The safety of children is on the line. ORR must act now."
