Wyden Statement on CMS Letter to Idaho on Junk Insurance Plans

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued a statement after CMS Administrator Seema Verma sent a letter to the state of Idaho on their proposed plan to sell health insurance plans that do not comply with federal law:

“The Trump Administration is talking out of both sides of their mouth,” Wyden said. “While they claim to be upholding the law, they are explicitly inviting Idaho and other states to sell short-term, junk insurance – the exact opposite of the protections put in place by the Affordable Care Act. Due to Trump’s dangerous health agenda, it should come as no surprise when families are slammed by double digit premium increases and people with pre-existing conditions are left out in the cold.”
