Wyden Response to Senate Republicans’ Supplementary Burisma and Hunter Biden Report

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement in response to Senate Republicans’ supplement to their report on Burisma and Hunter Biden:

“Despite wasting a year on this effort, Senate Republicans have produced no evidence of corruption by President-elect Biden. Every credible source who has reviewed these matters agrees.

“Republicans’ investigation has been shoddy and riddled with errors, and this is more of the same. Their September report, which was designed to manufacture dirt for Donald Trump to use in the first debate, featured false allegations about Hunter Biden’s financial ties to Russia. Importantly, Republicans partially admit to these mistakes in today’s supplemental report.

“The secret documents Republicans relied on state that they contain ‘unsubstantiated allegations,’ yet Republicans made virtually no effort to verify the alleged financial transactions, and have not spoken to the principals involved. To be clear, Donald Trump’s false attack against Hunter Biden originated from Senate Republicans’ failure to do even basic due diligence. This is yet another devastating blow to their credibility.

“When Chairman Johnson first ran for Senate in 2010, he encouraged Americans to invest in China, and did so himself. It takes a special kind of chutzpah to allege misconduct by private citizens who may have done the same. The chairmen’s continued focus on this fake scandal as we cross the devastating milestone of 250,000 Americans dead from COVID-19 is shameful.”
