Wyden Demands White House Justification for Administration's Luxury Travel
Washington, D.C. – Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today called for the White House to release all requests for use of military aircraft by members of the President’s cabinet. This follows a report by the Treasury Inspector General into Secretary Mnuchin’s travel requests, which cost taxpayers over $800,000.
“It’s clear now that this scandal didn’t start or end with former HHS Secretary Tom Price,” Wyden said. “It’s time for the Trump Administration to come clean with the American people and show us what other top officials in this administration have been using the White House as a luxury travel agency.”
The Treasury Inspector General’s report indicated that Secretary Mnuchin received rubber stamp approvals for his travel, including trips to Miami and New York that cost American taxpayers thousands of dollars—even when affordable commercial alternatives appear to have been available.
