Passage of Amendment for $350 Billion Economic Stimulus Package

Today’s passage of this important amendment, that limits the of theAdministration’s stimulus plan, is an accomplishment for the economy and the nation.We’re at war and the deficit continues to grow. This is not a time for massive tax cuts orrunaway spending.

With today’s vote, we’ve reached a positive middle ground. An economicstimulus plan of $350 Billion will give us the flexibility we need to provide aid to ourcash strapped states and encourage business expansion, while dedicating the remainingportion of the Administration’s package toward deficit reducing efforts. I look forward toworking with Chairman Grassley and members of the Finance Committee to put togethera strong, effective stimulus package.
