Hatch on President's Fiscal Year 2015 Budget

Utah Senator Says, “Rather than create a road map that will lift the ailing economy, spur new job growth and secure higher wages for hard-working families, this budget represents a campaign blueprint designed to drum up the President’s left-wing base during an election year. Its lack of seriousness is unfortunate, irresponsible and embarrassingly predictable.”

WASHINGTON –U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, today issued the following statement in response to the President’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2015 Budget that was submitted to Congress:

“Today, the President put forward a budget that fails to keep pace with the economic challenges of our time. Rather than create a road map that will lift the ailing economy, spur new job growth and secure higher wages for hard-working families, this budget represents a campaign blueprint designed to drum up the President’s left-wing base during an election year. Its lack of seriousness is unfortunate, irresponsible and embarrassingly predictable.

“Instead of embracing fiscal responsibility, this budget increases government spending by $791 billion over the next ten years. Instead of tackling the nation’s sky-high debt - which has already exploded by a whopping $6.8 trillion under this White House - this budget slaps on an additional $8.3 trillion over the next decade and fails to include any substantial reforms to the greatest drivers of our debt - Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. And, instead of promoting pro-growth policies to expand the economy and reduce the deficit, this budget saps American job creators and individuals with more job-killing tax hikes.

“A full month late, and the President’s budget recycles the same old spending surges, tax hikes, and budgetary smoke and mirrors that have repeatedly failed to right the nation’s economic ship and provide financial security and prosperity for Americans across the country. It’s no wonder Washington has already dubbed this plan dead on arrival.”
