Grassley Will Hold Two Trade Events

Event No. 1: Event with Secretary of Agriculture Ann Veneman

Date/time: Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at 10 a.m.
Location: the Upper Senate Park, just west of the Russell Building

Description: Sen. Chuck Grassley, a leader of the Committee on Finance, believes Congress
should grant the President Trade Promotion Authority as soon as possible. Grassley
will host an event with Secretary of Agriculture Ann Veneman; a bipartisan,
bicameral group of members of Congress; and several agricultural groups to discuss
how Trade Promotion Authority would advance the interests of American agriculture.

As an example of American-made products that are ripe for greater export, John
Deere will have on hand the largest agricultural tractor Deere makes. It’s 33,000
pounds, 24 feet long and 13 feet high.

Event No. 2: News conference with former U.S. Trade Representatives

Date/time: Thursday, June 28, 2001, at 2:15 p.m.
Location: 215 Dirksen Senate Office Building

Description: Grassley will host a news conference with former U.S. Trade Representatives
Strauss, Brock, Yeutter and Hills and other former senior U.S. trade negotiators, who
will release a joint letter to the congressional leadership calling for Trade Promotion
Authority to be enacted this year. The letter will state emphatically that it is vital for
continued U.S. leadership in trade policy that Congress renew Trade Promotion
Authority this year, especially if the United States intends to try to launch a new
round of World Trade Organization negotiations this fall.
