Grassley comment on Brainard nomination
Senator Chuck Grassley, Ranking Member of the Committee on Finance, issued the comment below regarding the Finance Committee review of nominee Lael Brainard to serve as Under Secretary for International Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
“This nomination took a long time to process because it took so many rounds of questions to try to get complete answers from the nominee. The dollar amounts involved aren’t large compared to some other administration nominees this year, but the lack of candor, accuracy and timeliness in addressing the issues has been discouraging. The vetting process used was the same one applied to every nominee that has been considered by the Finance Committee since 2001, under either my chairmanship or Senator Baucus’ chairmanship of the committee.”
