Crapo: Administration’s Trade Agenda Bypasses the American People
Washington, D.C.--Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) issued the following statement on the Biden Administration’s attempt to side-step a statutory requirement for the clean vehicle tax credit in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) by negotiating the United States - Japan Critical Minerals Agreement:
“Contrary to the Biden Administration’s claims today, the ‘critical minerals agreement’ with Japan does not reflect a ‘commitment to building resilient and secure supply chains’ because the agreement itself lacks any binding or enforceable commitments whatsoever. By not allowing the public to see the text of the agreement before it was signed or submitting it to Congress for approval, the Administration has confirmed its only commitment is to bypass the American people, rather than make its case to them.”
