The Treasury Department has responded to Sen. Chuck Grassley’s inquiry regarding agency
preparations to ensure that the mailing of 95 million tax rebate checks will go smoothly. Congress
approved the rebate checks via the comprehensive tax cut legislation enacted with Grassley’s
leadership as Finance Committee chairman. Grassley made the following comment on the agency’s
response.

“The Treasury Department and the IRS seem to be making adequate preparations for this
major task. I’m glad to receive agency assurances that the mailing of rebate checks will go smoothly
and that taxpayers will have a means to get their questions answered. I’ll continue to monitor the
agencies’ work toward getting every rebate check to every deserving taxpayer, as Congress
intended.”
