Wyden Statement on House of Representatives Lawsuit for Donald Trump Tax Returns

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement in response to the House of Representatives’ lawsuit to force the Trump administration to comply with congressional requests for tax return information under section 6103 of the tax code:

“The Trump administration is breaking a crystal clear law, and I support the House of Representatives’ lawsuit 100%. The administration’s legal analysis to justify breaking the law has already been laughed out of court. The judges in these cases have noted that Congress has broad investigative authority and it’s not up to the administration to unilaterally decide the legitimacy of investigations. In this case, the law is even stronger on the side of the House of Representatives because Chairman Neal is relying on a clear statute, in addition to Congress’ oversight authority. The lawlessness of this administration knows no bounds and courts are needed to force compliance.”
