Re: Baucus comments on Secretary Locke’s speech outlining plan to boost U.S. exports

Chairman Baucus (D-Mont.) commented today after remarks from U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke reaffirming the Administration’s commitment to double U.S. exports over the next five years, which itsays will help to support two million new American jobs. Locke pledged more funding, improvedgovernment-wide support to promote small business exports around the world, and strong enforcementof U.S. trade agreements as means to accomplish this goal. Baucus has been a steadfast advocate ofworking to open new markets and enforcing our current trade agreements so American ranchers, famers, manufacturers and small businesses can take full advantage of the global marketplace. The Finance Committee has sole jurisdiction over international trade policy.

From Chairman Baucus:

“I fully support the President’s goal of doubling U.S. exports over the next five years and look forward to working with the Administration to take the necessary steps to achieve this task. I was particularly pleased to hear Secretary Locke announce a significant investment to promote small business exports. These entrepreneurs are the lifeblood of our economy both in my home state of Montana and acrossthe country,” Baucus said. “Exporting American-made goods around the world means jobs here at home. We must continue to build strong trade partnerships and open new markets for American ranchers, farmers, manufacturers and small businesses to sell their world-class products.”
