Baucus Comments on House Tax Action

MEMORANDUM

Re: Baucus Statement on Extenders, Mark Up by House Ways and Means

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) made the following comment today
following mark up by the House Ways and Means Committee of tax extender legislation including energy provisions.

“I am pleased that House Ways and Means has approved energy measures on its extenders bill that largely represent the energy package Senate Finance and Ways and Means negotiated last December. While that bill failed to clear the Senate, I am hopeful that the new efforts to identify offsets will facilitate timely passage of this important legislation. I am fully committed to working with my colleagues to move legislation that will encourage the production and use of alternative energy, translate into real savings on college tuition, state and local sales taxes, and business investments for individuals and companies alike. It will also be vital this year to prevent the Alternative Minimum Tax from applying to those who didn’t pay it last year.”
