Wyden Statement on USTR Public Interest Trade Advisory Committee
Washington, D.C. – The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative announced today that the Administration is creating a Public Interest Trade Advisory Committee, to advise USTR’s trade negotiators on issues that impact public health, consumer protection, and transparency.
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden issued the following statement in response:
“The Public Interest Trade Advisory Committee announced today is a step in the right direction toward making sure transparency, health, and consumer interests become central issues in the trade negotiation process. I have long fought to ensure that these interests are better represented in our trade negotiations. I am pleased that USTR is beginning to get the message that transparency and broader public participation is in everyone’s interest, and I look forward to continuingto work with Ambassador Froman to identify additional steps the Administration can take to demonstrate that transparency is a priority.”
