Wyden Statement on Trump’s Latest Campaign Proposal on Taxes

Washington, D.C. — Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement on Trump’s latest attempt to appear interested in the needs of working people with a tax proposal on overtime pay:

“Donald Trump is losing, and these tax proposals he’s floating out of desperation are as fake as his tan. Trump knows Republicans in Congress have no intention of passing this stuff, but he goes ahead and blurts it out anyway. It’s obvious his newfound concern for working people is a fraud, because as president he undermined overtime protections for workers, and now, he’s calling for upward of $7 trillion in tax changes that will shower handouts on multinational corporations and the wealthy. The astronomical deficits he’d run would guarantee cuts to Social Security.

“Trump is behind in this election and he’s losing touch, but you can always count on him to treat workers like chumps he can buy off with empty campaign promises here and there. The American people deserve better. Democrats want to attack the cost of living, strengthen Social Security, and protect the middle class from tax hikes. Donald Trump won’t do any of that.”
