Wyden Statement on Trump Tariff Announcement
Washington, D.C. — Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today slammed Donald Trump for prolonging the chaos and pain he is inflicting on families and small businesses with his senseless global tariffs. Trump announced a 90-day delay of some of the tariffs in a Truth Social post, but confirmed a 10 percent tariff on all goods, plus massive new tariffs on goods from China.
“Trump isn’t pausing tariffs, he’s putting a new 10 percent tax on everything Americans buy, and prolonging the chaos for small businesses and pain for retirees and families. The lack of certainty and predictability continues for the next 90 days, and leaves millions of Americans stuck in a painful state of suspended animation about what’s next for as long as Trump is president. I’m also concerned the all-out trade war with China could reduce their cooperation against the deadly fentanyl epidemic plaguing our communities,” Wyden said.
“Trump has proven that no one--not the American people, not our trading partners--can trust a word he says. How can anyone expect he would hold up his end of any deal reached? Congress needs to pass my bill to overturn these global tariffs for good.”
