Wyden Statement on Supreme Court Fulton v. City of Philadelphia Decision
Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement on the Supreme Court's decision on Fulton v. City of Philadelphia:
“The Supreme Court’s decision today does not change the fact that every child deserves a safe and loving home. While this decision is narrow and only applies to the foster care contract in this specific case in Philadelphia, the issue of taxpayer-funded discrimination in our child welfare system remains an urgent and pressing concern. The foster care system should serve the best interests of all children coming into its care. Denying vulnerable children a safe and loving home simply because a prospective foster parent is part of the LGBTQIA+ community or practices a different religion does not fulfill that mission. Congress must pass the Every Child Deserves a Family Act, as well as the Equality Act, to rid our child welfare system of discrimination once and for all.”
