Wyden Statement on Senate Republican Budget Resolution
Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued a statement after Republicans on the Senate Budget Committee released a draft budget resolution with reconciliation instructions:
“The way this is written means only one thing: Republicans have their knives out for Americans’ health care,” Wyden said. “It’s been clear from the start that congressional Republicans plan to gut health care for working families to fund their ideological priorities. Democrats in the Senate will go to the mat to stop any cuts to Medicaid that will increase costs and take away health care from everyday Americans.”
The budget resolution includes instructions for the Senate Finance Committee, but not the House Ways & Means Committee, implying that non-tax policies within the Finance Committee are the only source of spending cuts that could be targeted by the committee in a reconciliation bill operating under this resolution.
