Wyden Statement on Resignation of CBP Commissioner Chris Magnus
Washington, D.C. — Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden issued the following statement today, following the resignation of U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Chris Magnus on Saturday.
“An empowered, reform-minded Customs and Border Protection commissioner is essential for everything from enforcing immigration laws at our borders to preventing products made with forced labor from entering our country. CBP needs strong leadership to curb civil liberties violations like warrantless searches of electronic devices at the border and the excessive use of force we have seen in past administrations. I have appreciated Chief Magnus’ service and look forward to the nomination of a qualified CBP commissioner.”
As the committee with oversight over international trade, the Finance Committee has jurisdiction over the nomination process for Customs and Border Protection Commissioner.
