Wyden Statement on Progress Confirming U.S. Tax Court Nominations

Washington, D.C. — Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement on the Senate’s recent progress confirming nominations for the U.S. Tax Court:

“In the last few days and weeks, the Senate has made tremendous progress filling vacancies on the U.S. tax court with highly qualified nominees. When Cathy Fung’s nomination is confirmed in November, the court will have a full roster of judges. The Tax Court is often overlooked as a part of our judicial system, but it’s an essential source of fairness for taxpayers and the administration of our tax laws would be even more chaotic without it.  I’m especially pleased the Senate has confirmed the nominations of Kashi Way and Jeff Arbeit, long-time members of the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation. Members of Congress, and the tax-writing committees in particular, cannot do our jobs without the hard work and expertise of the entire team at JCT. We’re sorry to lose Mr. Way and Mr. Arbeit, but they’ll make excellent judges, and our loss is the taxpayer’s gain.”
