Wyden statement on HHS overturning Trump-era waivers allowing for taxpayer-funded discrimination in child welfare and reestablishing nondiscrimination policies across the agency
Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement on the decision of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to reestablish its commitment to furthering nondiscrimination policies across the agency and to rescind Trump-granted state waivers allowing federally-funded child welfare agencies to deny vulnerable children access to the qualified, welcoming and safe families they deserve:
“Every child deserves a safe, loving home and every person deserves access to the care they need. Your religion, who you love, how you identify—none of that should come into consideration as providers serve their communities, especially when they are paid for by taxpayer dollars. Today we are one step closer to closing the dark chapter of taxpayer-funded discrimination and putting equality at the center of care for vulnerable kids and folks everywhere."
