Wyden Statement on Florida Cancelling $300 UI Boost

Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis cancelling the $300 weekly boost to unemployment benefits:

“Florida is the latest state to pull the rug out from under jobless workers as Republican governors nationwide sabotage the economic recovery. While it’s good news that Governor DeSantis is not cancelling benefits for gig workers and those who have exhausted state benefits, losing the $300 boost is an especially hard blow in Florida. By design, Florida has one of the stingiest unemployment insurance systems in the country. Jobless workers will receive just $235 per week on average, and it’s impossible to make ends meet with $235 per week. No one should face financial ruin for living in states run by Republicans.”
