Wyden Blasts Trump Killing Free Direct Tax Filing Service
Washington, D.C. — Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., blasted Donald Trump’s Treasury Department for reportedly bowing to lobbyists and killing the Direct File tax service, which allowed taxpayers in 25 states to file their taxes with the IRS for free, without using a third-party tax preparation service.
“No one should have to pay huge fees just to file their taxes. Direct File was a massive success, saving taxpayers millions in fees, saving them time and cutting out an unnecessary middleman that took money out of Americans’ pockets for no good reason,” Wyden said. “Trump and Secretary Bessent are robbing regular American families to pay back lobbyists that spend millions to make tax filing more expensive and more difficult.”
