WATCH: Wyden Blasts Trump Social Security Nominee for Lying Over DOGE Connections, Following Whistleblower Statement
At Senate Finance Committee Confirmation Hearing, Wyden Presses Social Security Nominee on DOGE Connections, Demands Commitment to Protect Americans’ Benefits
Washington, D.C. – Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today blasted Frank Bisignano, Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Social Security Administration, after a whistleblower statement provided to Wyden’s office showed Bisignano lied about his connections to DOGE and its efforts to break Social Security. Wyden also sounded the alarm on Trump and Musk’s plans to slash benefits and dismantle customer service at the agency.
When pressed by Wyden about his involvement with ongoing efforts by DOGE to dismantle the Social Security Administration, Bisignano lied, claiming he has had no contact with DOGE officials. Wyden’s staff on the Finance Committee received information from a whistleblower who served at the Social Security Administration, disclosing that Bisignano has been in close contact with DOGE officials and even received regular briefings on its operations at SSA.
The whistleblower’s statement can be found here.

Later in the hearing, Wyden tried to secure a commitment from Bisignano that he would block DOGE from accessing Social Security databases containing the personal information of Social Security recipients. Bisignano refused to go on the record saying he would stop them from accessing that information.
Video of that exchange can be found here.
Wyden has repeatedly sounded the alarm over Trump and Musk’s clear, ongoing attempts to dismantle and privatize Social Security, and has strong concerns that Bisignano will apply his sledgehammer approach of gutting and selling off businesses to his role at SSA.
