Senate Clears Budget Resolution to Advance Tax Reform
Utah Senator Says, “Tonight’s action sends a strong signal to the American people that Congress is unified in its effort to advance a comprehensive tax overhaul that will shift the nation’s economic landscape and provide relief to middle-class families.”
WASHINGTON – Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) released the following statement tonight after Senate passage of H. Con. Res. 71, the Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 Budget Resolution:
“Tonight’s action sends a strong signal to the American people that Congress is unified in its effort to advance a comprehensive tax overhaul that will shift the nation’s economic landscape and provide relief to middle-class families. Under the leadership of Chairman Enzi, the Budget Committee produced a strong budget with a reconciliation instruction that will give the Finance Committee the headroom it needs to develop the best pro-growth policies to achieve our goal. I ask my colleagues in the House to act swiftly to push a final budget across the finish line.”
Background: The Senate budget provides a $1.5 trillion instruction to the Finance Committee. This instruction will give the committee and the entire Congress the ability to produce comprehensive tax reform that will spur economic growth, make the United States more competitive, and allow working families to save more of their hard-earned dollars.
