Roth, Moynihan Urge Resolution of U.S.-Japan Trade Issues
WASHINGTON -- Senate Finance Committee Chairman William V. Roth, Jr. (R-DE), Ranking Democratic Member Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-NY), and other Committee Members today expressed "concern over reports that the Japanese Government is objecting to the continuation of the U.S.-Japan Enhanced Initiative on Deregulation and Competition Policy (Enhanced Initiative) and over the lack of progress by Japan's Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in reducing excessive telecommunications interconnection rates."
In a letter to Ambassador Shunji Yanai of Japan, the Senators urge for a resolution of these two trade issues before the Okinawa G-8 Economic Summit in July.
A copy of the letter is attached.
