Republican Plan to Gut IRS Enforcement In Israel Funding Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today blasted the reported Republican plan to gut IRS enforcement funding as a condition of providing aid to Israel and Ukraine:

“If Republicans had an ounce of shame they wouldn’t condition support for Israel and Ukraine on giveaways to wealthy tax cheats. Making aid to Israel and Ukraine dependent on gutting IRS enforcement funding is an absolute nonstarter,” Wyden said. “Hamas depends on sham charities and other illicit finance schemes to fund its operations, but this proposal would cut resources to IRS criminal investigators who are actively helping American allies stop terrorist financing and sanctions evaders. And according to CBO, taking funding from IRS enforcement will actually increase the deficit by letting more wealthy individuals get away with not paying their fair share.”
