Hatch Statement on Selection of Paul Ryan for House Speaker

WASHINGTON – Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) today issued the following statement after the House of Representatives selected Ways and Means Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) to serve as Speaker of the House:

“With a clear track record of conservative leadership and the ability to bring both sides of the aisle together, Paul is a vibrant and worthy choice to lead the House of Representatives. As chairman of the Ways and Means Committee and former chairman of the House Budget Committee, Paul has the unparalleled experience to build meaningful coalitions to make big things happen. During his short time at the helm of Ways and Means, he drove a strong, pro-growth agenda aimed at helping American families and job creators. He fought to make responsible tax relief permanent, helped bipartisan Trade Promotion Authority become law, and worked to dismantle Obamacare. Paul is a studied policy wonk who can articulate why conservative ideas like simplifying our tax code, strengthening our entitlement programs, and reining in wasteful spending will unlock economic growth and enhance opportunities for American families. With his remarkable record of forging bipartisan compromise to move America forward, I am confident the House made the right choice. I congratulate Paul on his selection to be Speaker of the House and look forward to working with him in the months ahead.”
