Hatch Announces Departure of Chief Tax Counsel

WASHINGTON – Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) today announced that Chief Tax Counsel Jennifer Acuña would be departing the committee at the end of the year.

“Jennifer is a top-notch problem-solver who played a critical role in drafting and enacting tax reform last year. One of my chief goals during tax reform was to transition our outdated world-wide tax system toward a territorial one, while ensuring that companies did not send jobs and investment overseas. It was a tall order, but Jennifer was up to the task and she came up with new and innovative solutions to make the United States a more competitive place to do business. I would like to thank her for her invaluable counsel to the committee as we took on the most ambitious tax overhaul in a generation. I wish her the best in her future endeavors.”

Acuña has served as the committee’s chief tax counsel since May and senior tax counsel and policy advisor since February 2017 where she was the lead policy staffer in drafting tax reform’s international provisions. Prior to joining the committee, she was tax counsel for the House Ways and Means Committee, and has experience at the IRS, White & Case, and Morgan, Lewis, & Bockius. She has a LL.M. in Taxation from the NYU School of Law and a J.D. from UCLA School of Law.
