The following comment is from Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Committee on Finance, on House passage of legislation on a child tax credit.
“As I’ve said all week, I support much of the substance of the House bill. I look forward to working with Chairman Thomas in conference on a bill that can pass the Senate and the House. I’d like to see some improvements, such as retaining the Senate’s uniform definition of a childprovision. According to Joint Tax and Treasury, this proposal would simplify the tax code formillions of families with children. If we don’t change the House bill, I don’t know if there areenough Senate votes to pass it, but the point of a conference is to come up with a product that bothchambers can pass.”
