Grassley on Fiscally Responsible Prescription Drug Pricing Bill
Prepared Floor Remarks by
U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa
Chairman, Senate Finance
Committee
Wednesday, November 6,
2019
I’ve
had to scratch my head upon hearing some criticism of my Prescription Drug
Pricing Reduction Act from supposedly fiscally conservative and
pro-taxpayer organizations like Freedom Works and Americans for Tax Reform.
My
bill would save taxpayers more than $100 billion.
Of
course, these organizations receive substantial funding from Big Pharma.
I
can’t think of a better opportunity to enact bipartisan entitlement reform that
would significantly lower the debt and help rein in entitlement spending.
That’s
a goal I’ve campaigned on and nearly every one of my Republican colleagues have
campaigned on.
Now’s
the chance to do it.
In
an era of gridlock and partisanship, do supporters of less government spending
and balanced budgets really think their goals can be achieved without bipartisanship?
The
good news is that my legislation is bipartisan and support for the bill is
growing by the day.
