Baucus Welcomes Thomas Reeder as Senior Benefits Counsel

Washington, DC – Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) announced today the appointment of Thomas Reeder as Senior Benefits Counsel on the Democratic Senate Finance Committee staff. Reeder will serve as senior advisor on tax policy relating to health care, pensions, retirement, and Social Security issues. He joins the Finance Committee from the U.S. Department of Treasury, where he managed a similar portfolio. At the Finance Committee, Reeder will play a key role on the tax aspects of health care reform and pension issues. He will also continue to work closely with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), two agencies under Finance Committee purview.

“Tom Reeder is a strong addition to the team and we welcome his expertise on our dual missions of health care reform and retirement security. Tom’s experience will be particularly valuable in building consensus among relevant agencies on strong, forward-thinking policies that secure the retirement benefits of all Americans, young and old,"Baucus said. "We may also rely on Tom's good insight in our efforts to recalibrate the health care system to cover all citizens and bring down costs. These are formidable challenges, and I expect that Tom will get to work right away. We’re very happy to have him.”
