Baucus Urges Senate Passage of H.R. 6331

Re: upcoming vote on House-passed version of Baucus Medicare bill
Senate Finance Chairman Baucus issued a statement Wednesday afternoon in advance of
expected Senate consideration this week of H.R. 6331, a House-passed modification of Baucus’s own Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (S. 3101), which he introduced in the Senate earlier this month.
From Chairman Baucus:
“I strongly urge the swift passage of H.R. 6331 in the Senate. I have worked for months
with many colleagues for a Medicare bill that improves care for seniors, improves
reimbursements to their doctors, and finds smart savings from overpaid parts of the
program, and I have always sought to craft a bill that could pass with bipartisan support.
Tuesday’s overwhelming House vote makes clear that the Medicare Improvements for
Patients and Providers Act can be that bipartisan vehicle, and just in time. I urge my
colleagues to support the House-passed Medicare bill for the sake of the forty-four million
American seniors depending on Medicare for their health care.”
