Baucus, Ruler of Dubai seek stronger ties between U.S., UAE

At meeting today, leaders discussed importance of international cooperation, education

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) – Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) today met with His Highness, the Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum. At the meeting, Baucus and Sheikh Mohammed discussed the importance of international cooperation and of education, regional stability, and strengthening ties between the United States and UAE. Baucus leads the Senate panel responsible for international trade policy.

“Dubai has been on the forefront of economic development and growth for the past several years. It is good for our countries to engage. It is good for us to talk together about the importance of issues like education to the stability of the Middle East region, and to the economic competitiveness of both our nations,” Baucus said. “The U.S. – UAE relationship has grown significantly in the past five years, and I hope our relationship will continue to strengthen.”

Also at today's meeting were other government leaders, including Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Mohammed Al Gergawi and Minister of State Reem Al Hashemi.Baucus also had breakfast with members of the American Business Council in Dubaitoday, and spoke to students and other guests at Zayed University.
