Baucus Hires David Schwartz as Health Counsel for Senate Finance Committee
Washington, DC – Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) has hired David Schwartz as Health Counsel for the Committee’s Health and Welfare Team. Schwartz has served the committee for three years as a fellow and then as a detailee from the Social Security Administration, and his work will continue to focus on issues related to pharmacies, drug pricing and benefits, health information technology, medical malpractice and the integrity of federal healthcare programs. He will also conduct investigations related to the operation of the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
“David has dedicated great effort and expertise to improving our country’s health programs, and his service on the Finance Committee staff has already helped to make Medicare and Medicaid work better for beneficiaries,”Baucus said. “I’m pleased to bring him on as a permanent staff member, and know he’ll continue to provide valuable contributions to the Committee’s work.”
Before coming to the Committee, Schwartz worked for the Social Security Administration as an attorney-advisor in both the Office of the Commissioner and the Medicare Division of the Office of Hearings and Appeals, where his work focused on the Medicare administrative appeals process.
A native of Little Neck, NY, Schwartz has a law degree from the George Washington University Law School and a B.A. in Psychology from the University at Albany, State University of New York.
