Baucus Comments After House Approves Tax Legislation

Washington, DC – Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) issued a brief statement following today’s House of Representatives vote to approve legislation protecting American taxpayers from the Alternative Minimum Tax, and extending a number of important expiring provisions. Baucus’s Finance Committee is working to complete AMT and “extenders” legislation for swift consideration by the Senate.

“The House completed important work today by passing AMT legislation. Once the Senate
receives that bill, I intend to move on a Senate package that will also protect millions of
American taxpayers from the stealth tax of the AMT, and that will extend vital provisions
for families, college students, teachers, and others. There’s no doubt that Congress will
complete work this year on an AMT patch that will protect those who don't pay the tax now
from being hit. Millions of American families are counting on us to act, and we will.”
