Baucus Comments After House Approves Peru FTA

Washington, DC – Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) issued a brief statement following today’s House of Representatives vote to approve the U.S.-Peru Free Trade Agreement. The Senate is expected to vote on the agreement soon. The Senate Finance Committee has jurisdiction over U.S. trade policy.

“In a time of great skepticism, the Peru FTA shows how smart trade agreements can work for American workers and create good-paying jobs here at home. The House vote today is a show of support for enforceable labor and environmental standards that will help to safeguard our jobs and that will make international trade an even more powerful jobcreating tool in the U.S. I look forward to a similar vote in the Senate, as I look forward to addressing my number-one trade priority this year: a robust expansion of the Trade Adjustment Assistance program for America’s workers.”
