Tax-Writing Chairmen Will Visit Small Businesses to Hear Concerns about America’s Broken Tax Code

Washington, DC - Today, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) announced that on Monday, July 29 they will visit two separate small businesses in the Philadelphia area.  The Philadelphia trip is the second stop in a series of trips across the nation so the Chairmen of the two tax-writing committees can hear directly from Americans about how to spark a more prosperous economy and make today’s broken tax code fairer for families and job creators.  The focus of the Philadelphia trip will be how a simpler and fairer tax code can help small business and families boost the economy, create jobs and improve wages.

On their tax reform tour, the two Chairmen will hear from a diverse group of voices including large multinational corporations with overseas operations, small, family-run businesses and individual taxpayers.  During their first stop, Camp and Baucus traveled to St. Paul, Minnesota, where they visited both 3M and Baldinger Bakery.

Over the past two years we’ve heard from hundreds of experts on how to fix the tax code to make it simpler for families and spark a more thriving economy, but now it’s time to get beyond the ‘Beltway’ and hear directly from job creators, families and individuals,” Chairman Baucus and Chairman Camp said in a joint statement.  “The status quo, which is today’s tax code, isn’t working.  It is too complex and every dollar spent and hour consumed figuring out how to comply is time and money they can’t reinvest back into their business and their workers.  We’re hitting the road so that we can hear from job creators and families alike about how we can move past the status quo and make the system fairer and easier to deal with for all Americans.”
