Re:        Statement Regarding the Russian Duma’s Vote on Agreement to Join the WTO

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) released the following statement today regarding the news that Russia's lower house of parliament, the State Duma, has approved an agreement to join the World Trade Organization (WTO).  From Chairman Baucus:

“Today’s vote by the Russian Duma underscores the importance of early action by Congress to pass legislation extending permanent normal trade relations (PNTR) to Russia.  Without PNTR, America’s ranchers, farmers, workers and businesses will lose out to their foreign competition.   I intend to mark up PNTR legislation as quickly as possible.”
